Murray, San Diego



Murray, San Diego, is located within the boundary of Mission Trails Regional Park, which lies between the city of San Diego and the neighboring communities of La Mesa and Santee. The Murray reservoir has got 171.1 surface acres when it is full with a maximum water depth of 95 feet and 3.2 shoreline miles. Here the water level are monitored weekly.

The Murray reservoir of San Diego is a very popular place for bicycling, jogging, walking, rollerblading, and picnicking. Patrons can walk along the 3.2 miles long paved road up to the dam gate and then have to return must to make the whole path a 6.4 miles round trip.

There are 10 barbecues and 64 picnic tables around the Murray Lake. Self-contained barbecues from outside are allowed for use in designated areas only. Ground fires and glass containers are strictly no. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash and should not reach within 50 feet range from the water of the reservoir. Dogs are not allowed on the boats.

Florida-strain largemouth bass, Bluegill, Channel Catfish, Black Crappie and Trout can be found in Murray, San Diego. Here, the minimum size limit for Bass is 12 inches. There is a fish limit of 5 Bass, 5 Catfish and 25 Crappie whereas there is no limit on other fishes.

Patrons can also float tube or fish from the shore in Murray, San Diego. Use of float tubes should be restricted within 150 feet or less from the shore. Wearing a Chest Waders and having a Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation device is a must for the float tubers in the Murray, San Diego. They must also have a horn or whistle to warn approaching craft.

Murray, San Diego, is open seven days a week throughout the year. Rental boats are only available December through September on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Rowboats, boats with 5 HP outboard motors and canoes are available for rent on the days when the reservoir remains open for fishing. Alcohol is prohibited in this reservoir. The nearest camping is at Kumeyaay Lake as there is no camping allowed in Murray.
